Application Directions:
Surface Preparation: Ensure the wood surface is clean, dry, and free of old finishes in poor condition, paint, wax, grease, polish, dirt, or other foreign matter. Sand to obtain a smooth, uniform surface and remove all dust.
Stir Product: Stir the Minwax Wipe-On Poly thoroughly before and during use to ensure any settled solids are re-dissolved.
Application: Apply a liberal amount of product evenly using a clean, soft, lint-free cloth. Wipe it on in the direction of the wood grain.
Wipe Off Excess: After a few minutes (typically 5-10 minutes, or as per can instructions), wipe off any excess polyurethane that has not been absorbed, again wiping in the direction of the wood grain.
Drying & Recoating: Allow the finish to dry for 2-3 hours. If additional coats are desired for increased durability or depth (2-3 coats are common), lightly sand with very fine grit sandpaper (e.g., 220 or #000 steel wool for oil-based poly) between coats once the previous coat is thoroughly dry. Remove all sanding dust before recoating.
Final Cure: The product is dry for light use after 24 hours. Allow more time for full cure before subjecting to heavy use.
Cloth Disposal: Dispose of any application cloths used in a safe manner (e.g., spread out to dry flat or soak in water then place in a sealed metal container), as cloths soaked with oil-based finishes may self-ignite if improperly discarded.
